Dear Medac client,
The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of the 2016 Medicare PQRS reporting requirements which have dramatically changed since last year. In the past, groups have been able to simply document 1-4 anesthesia quality measures (antibiotics, sterile CVP, beta blockers in CABGs, and normothermia) on their anesthesia record in order for Medac to submit to Medicare and avoid a penalty. This year, however, Medicare has transitioned most of these quality measures away from claims-based reporting and now requires that you submit through a registry in order to avoid a penalty. The penalty for this year will be assessed on 2018 dates of service and will be a 2-6% reduction of your Medicare allowable amounts, should you fail.
In order to avoid this penalty, we are recommending that you migrate to a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for quality reporting within the first two quarters of 2016. Although this is not a billing-related issue, we feel the need to make you aware of the urgency and time-sensitivity of this matter. Medac has already helped many of our anesthesia groups with solutions to meet this new requirement, and we would like to do the same for your practice. Since time is of the essence, your Medac practice manager will be contacting you to discuss your practice’s potential liability and potential options to avoid the penalty.
